After being cancelled in two versions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year it will return to Valparaiso, specifically to the port’s passenger terminal (TPV) and will take place between November 29 and December 2. EXPONAVAL 2022 is organized by FISA, of the GL events Group. This international fair has been held every two years since 1998 and has established itself as the most important event of its kind in the region, serving as a meeting point between the Latin American navies and exhibitors from the global defense industry, shipyards, maritime technology, security, telecommunications, among others. For the present version, the Fair will be sponsored by the Ministry of Defense and the Chilean Navy. This is the largest fair held in the region and important companies in the field of defense and civilian products have committed their attendance, which will be exhibited in 14,500 thousand m2 of exhibition space in the port area. Regarding the relevance of this Fair, the Commander in Chief of the Navy, Admiral Juan de la Maza said: EXPONAVAL is the most important fair on naval and maritime issues in the region, so it is of special relevance that, after the pandemic, its face-to-face activities are resumed. It is an international forum where topics of interest to all the navies of the world are discussed, particularly those of the Pacific basin, so it is very important to continue to be part of it. Chile has a luxury fair and we must maintain and promote it”. To date, delegations from different parts of the world have confirmed their attendance, headed by their respective commanders-in-chief, who will also participate in an international congress entitled “The challenges for a maritime condition in the 21st century”, which is being jointly organized by FISA and the ATHENALAB Studies Center. This academic meeting will feature prominent speakers such as former Australian Commander-in-Chief Admiral Michael Noonan, together with professors from the US Naval War College and the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) of Great Britain, who together with national academics will analyze Chile’s maritime condition. The executive director of EXPONAVAL, Rodrigo Lobo, said that “today we have great expectations in terms of attendance. This will be one of the largest maritime defense and security events in terms of participation, with the presence of armed forces, suppliers and industry professionals from various countries. Therefore, we invite everyone to be part of this great fair and international congress. This fair will also allow the Navy to interact with several world-renowned shipyards that have developed shipbuilding capabilities and can transmit their experiences through a seminar that will allow the Chilean Navy to advance in its national continuous construction plan, which is already in the process of designing the new auxiliary units to be built at the ASMAR plant in Talcahuano.
